We have just learned about Immigration in the late 1800's, early 1900's. You will be tasked with creating a "Where I'm From" poem concerning immigration. You can find the exact details of the assignment below. Your poem will be graded in three categories:
Historical Context/Accuracy (15 Pts.)
Use of Language and Emotion (10 Pts.)
Spelling, Neatness, Grammar (5 Pts.)
30 Points Total
You will find 3 Attachments below:
1. The Prompt/Directions for your "Where I'm From" Poem
2. A PDF of your textbook pages with relevant material
3. A link to Ellis Island immigrant stories - this link provides the stories of 8 families immigrating during this time period. Use them as a source of inspiration. DO NOT COPY THEM

11/15/17 History day review
As students know, every Wednesday we will be addressing History Day Projects. This week we looked at beginning research, selecting a topic, and developing a research question. We also looked at the rules and regulations for each category. If your student losses the handout from today, I have attached a link below to the Rule Book from which it was taken. There is also a pdf version of the Rule Book further down on this page under the first History Day entry.

11/9/17 - Reconstruction Notes
We have begun studying the Reconstruction Era in History Class, these are the first two note sections. A reminder, Civil War Journal Projects are due Monday 11/13
So it begins! Greetings students, and parents/guardians! As I hope you have heard, the 8th grade class will be participating in the 2018 National History Day Contest and present a project dealing with the theme Conflict and Compromise. You will find a number of attachments below to help you get started. Allow me to walk you through starting from left to right:
The first is a copy of the handout which I sent home with your student. There are important dates which you will both need to be aware of as well as a general description of the project.
In the middle is this years "Theme Book" which gives general details and descriptions about this years theme as well as suggestions for possible topic to choose from! When thinking about what you might want to do or how you might want to approach the project, this is a great place to start.
Finally on the end is the National History Day Rule Book. It is essential that you and the student read the rules and requirements carefully! We will be going over the important areas in class, but it is important to read it and be aware of the requirements for participation.
